Australian native animals

A cute lil sugar glider taking a peek at me!

kangaroo on the hop

our country abounds in delightful creatures
sugar gliders with super sweet features
kangaroos grey red or brown abound
koala’s look cute but succumb to slumber
wombat’s prefer the cold leaving cubic poops
water dragon stands confident and proud
as do our goanna’s and blue tongued skinks

difficult to spot in the wild as pose they do not
visited a wildlife sanctuary to get a closer shot
sugar glider usually naps
but stuck her head up for a glance
roos usually feed at dawn and dusk
they damage cars and sadly become road kill

seeing wombats in the wild is such a big thrill
but they burrow rapidly shy by nature
our cold blooded lizards seek the sun
checking us out seems like their fun

kelly koala who sleeps 16 hours a day

  1. Just the wildlife of itself, Kate, in your Continent are spectacular. I would be forever outside taking pictures of the incredible vastness and variety of landscape and wildlife. Wow!! You live in a photographer’s dream. Thank you for showing us some examples of magic where you live. xo

    • I said at the sanctuary I’ve seen plenty of wombats in the wild but they are so shy that they burrow instantly. While a most of our birds, roos and platypus move too quickly to get a decent photo 🙂
