My Wish

May no living creature suffer
Commit evil or ever fall ill
May no one be afraid or belittled
with a mind weighed down by depression

May the blind see forms,
the deaf hear sounds.
May those whose bodies are worn with toil
Be restored on finding repose

May the naked find clothing
The hungry find food
May the thirsty find water
and delicious drinks.

May the poor find wealth
Those weak with sorrow find joy
May the forlorn find hope,
constant happiness and prosperity

May there be timely rains
and bountiful harvest
May all medicines be effective
and wholesome prayers bear fruit.

May all who are sick or ill
Quickly be freed from their ailments
Whatever diseases there are in the world
May they never occur again.

May the frightened cease to be afraid
And those bound be freed
May the powerless find power
And may people think of benefiting each other!

This is my most favourite ‘wish’ from a great Indian Master
that I often chant

And here is my wish for our world
with a photo of where I wish to live! 9.3.17
…  I now live here, wish granted!

  1. A wonderful wish, oh that it would come true in the physical world. It is all of life’s trials that makes life meaningful, giving us opportunity to know joy as we over come them. This is living.

  2. Beautiful, sweet, compassionate wishes! I wish the same as well!
May we all live (with positive deliberate actions and words) in ways that help these wishes come true for our world and the peoples in it.

  3. In my experience, Kate, it has been only the thirsty who have ever understood the value of water, only the hungry who have explained to me the luxury of food, only the poor who have provided a perspective of wealth. It is only those who have experienced suffering who can experience bliss. Blessed are all such souls.

  4. Kate, your verses reflect wishes which many join with you. When we take time to intentionally write about such wishes, we see both progress with many while others remain a work -in-progress. Even on this enormous planet, each of us can make a difference. Blessings to you!
