No worthier valentine than those we loved who have died. Their passing brings us much grief, missing, gnashing of teeth. For them it’s relief from ongoing pain, an escape from our world in rapid decline.

But to appease our bereavement its healthy to imagine them safely bestowed in the heavens above as a twinkling star, a moonbeam or a sun kiss. Surrounding us with love, appalled at our remiss. For them earthly woes have evaporated. Our grief needs to be sedated.

It is a moon wrapped in brown paper, briefly hidden for us to unpeel. So imagine your loved one is like Duffy’s onion as you unwrap that moon and let it beam. Your loved one lives on in the hearts of all those that they touched. They are twinkles, beams and kisses bestowed on us from up above.

  7. Death is not necessarily a release from pain for all. Those who die young and not due to disease or age leave a far greater void. Your verse reminds us beautifully how to remember them. Such a heartfelt write.

  14. Yes! I’d like to imagine that they escaped the cycle of grief and pain that we ought to put up with and that they are happy twinkling high above shining their light upon us. 🙂

  15. Yes! Right on! So true! So heart-touching! Brings the joy-tears to my eyes! 🙂
    I’m convinced they do live on in us AND they do want us to grieve but quickly move forward and do them proud…live a happy and helping life…keep making the world a better place.
    On my night walks I often look up at the stars and moon and say Thank Yous to those who have already gone on…and let them know I still think of them. 🙂

    • exactly Dwight, the physical access is gone but the spiritual one opens and can become quite strong … we usually know what they would say or do in a given situation 🙂

Agreed “its healthy to imagine them safely bestowed in the heavens above as a twinkling star, a moonbeam or a sun kiss.” Probably healthy to imagine those who have passed on you weren’t real fond of in life that way also… They are on their way to a new incarnation of life, and that’s a comforting thought.

  33. If we pause long enough in our grieving, we will be able to unwrap that bright love. A true gift for those able to embrace the hope and return the love! Hope you are surrounded by love or the warmth of the sun and the peace of the moon.
