sitting in my comfortable office chair
I list my concrete privileges
a tiny cozy cottage on the riverbank
a second hand reliable hybrid
a solid trusty bicycle
an old mac and sufficient wifi
an easy walk to the supermarket
a good education, regular income
my concrete advantages
allow me to explore the abstract
a blessing most will never know
d’Verse, concrete poem, Ingrid
Happy Diwali to one and all … leave those lights on, light a few candles and enjoy the celebration!

I agree kate….its just so easy for some to neglect it..restrictions on covid have been eased down here and as expected lo and behold the streets were in chaos…so i must say, we still are keeping ourselves away from the crowd…

we have planeloads of tourist flying in here, no known local cases, I walk the beach, fetch groceries and stay at home … too easy 🙂

That’s so true! People who are just hustling to stay alive don’t have the luxury of thinking about much of anything.

Indeed, only when you have the concrete minimum fulfilled you will be able to focus on the abstract. Like Maslow’s hierarchy of needs… the basic needs are all concrete.

Lovely poem, relaxing and nice. Gratitude is the most wonderful gift. Contentment with our lot is also a great virtue for peace and happiness.
Happy Diwali ! It is on the 4th. Which is a weekday. We will be having a family gathering, very small and simple on Sunday

Such a good point, Kate. We must remember to count our blessings everyday. Without the solid concrete foundations, it would be difficult to appreciate the abstract.

Thanks for the reminder of how fortunate we are to have the comforts and especially the luxury of leisure time. Too many in this world work without ceasing to find a small morsel to eat and a place to sleep that is dry…

All of these concrete things build a ladder to accessing the abstract. Very thoughtful. I enjoyed this one very much.

Happy Diwali, SweetKate! Love this poem and photo! Your advantages/blessings, and that you recognize them, appreciate them and let them lead you to explore, brings joy-tears to my eyes! When a friend is feelin’ the joy, peace, gratitude, and adventures…it makes me so so SO happy! 🙂
Something concrete that I see as an advantage, and appreciate, is having the honor and privilege of reading WP poet’s poems on my computer screen. 🙂
