not being ‘enough’
taught me to be tough
can wallow in the rough
or rise above it all
liberated me to have a ball
knowing that I stand tall
many become imprisoned
bury their soul in darkness
succumbing to proprieties
but more rise to the challenge
using their inner wealth
balancing life and health
open to opportunities as they arise
grateful and able to compromise
learning, growing becoming wise
Your words lend so much beauty to awareness and sense of personal identity in the way we are and should be rather than conforming to rules.

So right! Until we believe that we’re enough, we’ll never feel that way. It’s something we have to do for ourselves.

and it can be a real tough ride … so why do we make others feel ‘not enough’ ….

Sadly, so many do that because tearing down others is the only way they know to build themselves up. It’s so prevalent now, especially with the pandemic and on social media. I wish we could all grow up and learn that we don’t have to put any group down in order to bring another group up!

Ann I truly believe these people are so insecure and miserable … karma is a boomerang that always comes back 😦

This is such a relatable poem. I had to fit into other people’s molds for so long it still haunts me, even though I’ve long let go of that need.

A poem that demonstrates what it means to be a real human being. Without the wisdom to live with in our own means in pursuit of fulfillment and happiness, humans will continue to fall below expectations of human worth.

That’s correct but still it’s the best way to a better living. I do agree with you, after all life demands a lot from us.

It’s true we too often imprison ourselves. We need to be kinder to who we are. (K)

I love how you bring these truths and reminders to rhyme. Your poem is lovely and helps see where we stand, get sunk or rise above. It takes consistent work to stay above it all surely.

‘persistent effort’ are the words I use … when others make us feel we are ‘not enough’ it’s time to step away!

I like that you are open to possibilities and create inner balance. It is necessary to compromise, because you cannot think only about yourself, because others may think differently, because something else is good for them.

Profound poetry, Kate. Life is a challenge and we have to accept her at every turn and move forward learning from our mistakes and be wise and joyous. Too good.

Rightly said. One should prepare self to be flexible. This helps in overall development.

Sad when someone or someones or the world makes a person feel like they are not enough. 😦
Powerful, wise, inspiring poem, SweetKate! 🙂
No need to compare or compete…just in being here and just being ourselves we are enough. 🙂
(((HUGS))) 🙂
PS…the plant in your photo is gorgeous!

Lovely, Kate ❤
I'm trying to become wiser, but it doesn't seem to stick to me so well 😉

Kate, How painful it is to have to try to fit someone else’s mold. What is right for some is wrong for others. One of the things I appreciate about retirement is the ability to be my own boss. ❤

I am one of the fortunate ones. I stopped comparing myself to others a while ago. It was liberating. I no longer had to measure up or tone it down. I stepped back and said “Nolo contendere” It was not a surrender but a ceasing to compete.

Yeah …”On and On We Go”
On and On We Go
every second, a commitment
every breath, a moment
every moment, a feeling
every feeling has a heartbeat
and the beat goes on and on
a soft beat to every step, to and fro
and step by step the moments go
a quest for answers never stops
until our eternal sun drops
