order to
change our world
we need to change

my elfchen poem

“we all want changes in our world
but seldom think of changing ourselves!” kate/me

“be the change you want to see in the world”
incorrectly attributed to Gandhi

the featured quote is a pic I took on a cafe wall …

  1. You know I agree wholeheartedly! If we want change it has to start with the individual… No matter who said it, to “be the change you want to see in the world” is the way to make a difference.

  2. Excellent, SweetKate, and so true! Always gotta’ start with ourselves. 🙂 And it’s those inner changes that are the hardest, but most important.
I’m thinking now of a quote I love… “There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self.” Ernest Hemingway
For example, hen I played sports like tennis…my goal wasn’t to beat my opponent…it was to do better than I did the last time I played…I was in a competition with myself. 🙂 If that makes sense.
    (((HUGS))) 🙂

  3. Spot-on, Kate! How can we hope to influence the change that’s needed it we do nothing about the square meter we occupy in perpetuity?

In challenging yourself, you also gain greater insight into the obstacles change faces, as well as clues on overcoming them.

Often, when you free yourself, the others will follow.

  4. Wonderful Elfje!! Let us all learn that kindness is so much easier to spread than discord. We were eating out a while back with some friends and an older gal told the hostess it was too loud outside – that would have been enough but she felt she had to add that she wouldn’t return until she could eat inside. Sometimes elders, at least I think they think they don’t need to have filters anymore. Another older guy won’t tip for pick up meals. Doesn’t think the wait staff has earned anything. They still have to put the meals together. When I pick up meals for him I tip the waitstaff. Maybe not as much as I would if we were dining in, but they still deserve something ~ especially when special requests are made.

      • I think there are many places in Europe also where tipping isn’t a custom. But here our waitstaff is allowed to receive less than minimum wage with the expectation that they also report their tips as income. I’m not sure how that custom of tipping started. But I know that many of our restaurants that had take out only service and had to let many of their staff go… depended on the kindness and generosity of patrons.

  5. Love the quote. Reminds me of staying with what is, is also a choice. Realising that you are choosing not to do anything is empowering in a sense. Even if it’s negative, it’s a choice and you can always choose differently. (Yup, it’s what I tell myself. I’m making choices I don’t like. Coz it’s a choice one day I can make different choices. Or more like, make choices that will lead to making different choices).

    Love, light and glitter

  6. My favourite quote, by Gandhi, that I actually live by……
“You may never know what results of your actions, but if you do nothing, there will be no results” – Mahatma Gandhi
