scenic

had some jobs to do today
could go the same old way

many prefer routine and habit
but mixing it up spices life

took the long scenic route
thru national park and forest

then returned another way
alongside the meandering river

through lush flat farmland
stopped to look at this and that

fun - 1 (1)

do you take the same direct run
or potter about on a scenic route

can you relax chill and have fun
meander a while in the sun

or proceed at maximum speed
to a firm fixed destination

predestined to fit and conform
or willing to stretch the norm

rigid with rules
or laughing at life …

yesterday’s rainbow + stop to taste the gelati

    • no these are from the family home, got locked down here … so grateful as I normally live off grid in a tiny home and really wouldn’t have had the fridge and pantry space to shop fortnightly … here I’ve really had everything I needed.

  1. I love the poem and the photos.!

I take a walk every day for my health but find I enjoy it more when I focus on the wildflowers, woodpeckers, armadillos, butterflies, rabbits, gopher tortoises, cardinals, hawks, squirrels, sunshine, clouds… rather than thinking about vitamin D, my heart rate, or getting fit.

  2. I tried to focus on the lyric poetry, Kate, but the even-more-honeyed photos distracted me.

    Or was it vice-versa?

Therein, I think, is your lesson for today. Don’t concentrate too heavily on routine, lest you forget the other wonders that are in the same neighborhood.

The poetry is exquisite, but so are the the photos.

    Or was it vice-versa?

  3. I prefer the scenic route…chill, relax, meander…stretch the norm…laugh at life…and if I can’t find any fun…I make some!!! 😀 I don’t just want to think about the roses, or even just see the roses…I want to stop and smell them and touch them!!! 😉

There are days (especially when my kids were little kids, they loved this) when I put aside the work and chores and declare it a Fun Fun FUN Day!!! 🙂 The work and chores are waiting there and will get done eventually! 🙂 Fun and play always a priority with me! 🙂

I’ve always said I learn like preschoolers learn…the more of my senses I can get involved the better! So, let’s taste, smell, feel, see, and hear each day!!! 🙂

Love your photos and poem, SweetKate! Perfect and so timely for our lives today!!! Thank you!!! 🙂
    (((HUGS))) ❤ 🙂

  4. I do so love your poems, but this one sings with the musicality of a brook. Sometimes, a brook seems to meander and almost trickle to a stop. Yes, we should try new paths and make a new way from time to time. We should pause and take a sip of water from that rambling brook of life…full of possibilities. Thank you Kate. You remind us to stay young at heart and laugh at the winds that blow us about. 🙂

  5. I love my routine but I’ve relaxed and through my association with saintvi I’ve learned to “fly by the seat of my pants” to a greater degree. It isn’t the destination but the journey which is the joy of my geocaching hobby! I was looking at the gelato and thinking they looked like trails zig-zagging across the face of a mountain (delicious and tantalizing).

  6. I’d love to stop n look at this n that
I’d harass the gelati seller tasting this n that
I’d potter by the scenic route giving excuses this n that…
    Why should someone worry
When my this n that doesn’t cost them a penny!
    Love this totally…
