Alone time allows me
space to reflect
motivation to connect
provides insight
brings peace calm and satisfaction
liberates my mind and emotions
allows me to step outside societal norms
empowers me not to be spoon fed
to investigate what makes me tick
bringing better understanding of others
allows closer checking of my priorities
where did my habits come from
engages my true self worth
enables wiser choices
Provides tools
to tame my erratic mind
curb my volatile anger
douse my pity parties
gives an opportunity to learn listen and engage
reminds me to take full advantage of alone time
provides a mine of treasures to reflect upon
opens my heart more authentically to others
as I understand all is temporary, a mere lesson
more objectivity when listening to others
tolerance of different perspectives
a shield to repel ignorance and hatred
until I find the peace within
conflict and emotions will cause turmoil!
Empowering me
to go with the flow
respect diversity
be more tolerant
if I had to give it a colour it would be
the warm vibrant colours of a sunrise
it’s walking in and photographing nature
as she nurtures the spiritual connection
to country. Something our First Nation
Peoples acknowledge and respect
it’s allowed me to see the limitless well of
kind loving concern in everyone’s heart
sure some may need to dig deeper
but we will all find it there regardless
Shared time
ignites my compassion
instigates genuine concern
motivates persistent effort
for these qualities are deep inside each of us
just some are more reluctant or slower to connect
it’s knowing I’m a small vital thread in a very large
sublime colourful closely interwoven tapestry
free to make my own mistakes and choices
each thread independent but totally interdependent
as we rely on each other for food shelter and safety
when these are ignored nature promptly reminds us
intimacy provides connection with others
introspection investigates that impact
yet mere words cannot really describe
what I find abiding deep inside
in order to grow everyone must know
we are without doubt ONE
completely unified within this majestic universe
I sincerely don’t comprehend when
others immerse themselves in distractions
Wary of solitude they give it no priority
are scared of what it might reveal
I prefer to pursue it with great zeal!
d’Verse, solitude, Bjorn – this is an epic poem for me, but Bjorn asked!

I adore this post!! No one wants to practice deep thinking. Most are too afraid to do a thorough examination of conscience. I treasure the time when I can do some introspection that leads to correction….

you have to make that time Val … nobody gives it to you!

Right on! We need a good balance of alone time and what I call en masse time. 🙂
I’ve found that each prepares us for the other.
Even tho’ I am super extroverted and love people…I do value my alone time…it’s the time I get to know me better, I learn to be a better listener, I meditate, I commune with nature, etc.!
(((HUGS))) 🙂

I really love how you describe solitude as a tool to really enjoy the company of others… to capture and make use of those moments is the most important I think

Wonderful poem! Embracing the colors of a sunrise within our souls is a beautiful thing. We need time alone to contemplate the universe and our place in it. Solitude is a requirement if we want to understand who we are. Without that self knowledge we really can’t help anyone else.

Good point that some avoid solitude because they are “scared of what it might reveal”.

Fascinating! I think there is no greater gift to oneself than to dive in and learn how to be truest to oneself as can be. Sure, there are ebs and flows. But when an opportunity presents itself, however grand and all affecting, it’s time and effort well spent.

This resonates with me! Solitude can be so comforting and allows one to reflect, ponder, contemplate and sink into that zone of quiet and peace from the madness outside 🙂

Kate the beautiful golden rays of the setting sun is so wonderful. Very inspiring and beautiful poem, Kate. Every word had truth in them. A peaceful and quietness is so needed at these times.

each stanza is a poem on its own Kate and the complete read is a journey of self-awareness, beautifully composed. I like most of all the part where you say solitude empowers you, that resonates with me.

why I covered both … but most avoid alone time whenever possible

There are many gifts to unwrap in solitude – some of them disconcerting. Perhaps that is why others avoid it.

yes we all have some disconcerting there, but real healing happens when we face and accept it … those dramas don’t define us but they do shape us!

I love the layout of your poem, Kate, which felt like a solitary walk as I read it. The indents in the short stanzas are like in-breaths, emphasising the space and limitations, freedom and inspiration. The longer stanzas are like longer, slower exhalations. I love the lines:
‘if I had to give it a colour it would be
the warm vibrant colours of a sunrise’
and the photograph to illustrate them. I also like the tapestry metaphor.

I love so much the photo..you captured it so well Kate…the different layers of colors…and yes being alone provides us with lots of wonderful opportunities to be with our inner self….we take time to slow down and listen to our own thoughts.

I love this poem. It seems like many influencers of society shun self-reflection, calling it narcissistic to talk to the soul.

Yes Kate, profoundly correct in every thing you say…. I find myself noticing the small things around me more… how much the spider webs have grown each day…. when I’m going for my walks, I’m taking photos of things I hadn’t notice before, . when I meet some at shopping centre…. the conversation is more friendly and longer….. never too busy to stop and have a chat……maybe my poems have more depth…but I’m not sure about that one….. I’m concentrating on eating healthier… and very aware of keeping up with my exercise program…. and I’m completing my exercises everyday, without fail…… there’s no excuses, and I don’t look for any….. even when I’m having a bad day with tiredness….. and now I’m off for my afternoon walk…… Cheers..💙🌏
