  1. What lovely fungi photos, Kate! Each so unique, otherworldly, beautiful! A whole ‘other world is a buzz around, and under, the fungi…a world that Human-Beans are often too self-absorbed and too busy to notice! πŸ˜‰ Fungi have sprouted up in literature, fairy tales, folk tales. πŸ™‚
Even the names for fungi are wonderful!
    HUGS!!! πŸ™‚
    PS…again…fungi or fun-guys…love both!!! πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜€

  3. Fascinating variety, Kate! Inspiring a powerful temptation to make a dinner of them. Except…

As you mentioned, such would be a superb treat, or it easily could become a disastrous, or even fatal, indulgence. Better left to those trained to recognize edible species. Speaking of whom…

My father often told me of a man, in his childhood neighborhood, who had been born in Poland. After a good rain, this man would enter the forest with two empty pillowcases, and would emerge a couple hours later with both stuffed to capacity with mushrooms. He never told anyone where his treasure trove was located, but it yielded a savory bounty.

Of course, when this man was a child, most Eastern Europeans not living is big cities learned early to identify mushrooms. It was, and to some degree still is, part of their culinary heritage.

    • we had a top chef here kill himself and two friends when he made a mistaken choice of mushrooms … we used to collect them in old railway tunnels as kids but we knew they were the edible kind πŸ™‚
