today I met a lovely old gent
used a cane and was a bit bent
he had a twinkle in his eye
and a rather cute smile
he nodded a greeting
then came back with a taunt
although a bit gaunt
he was joyfully full of life
then as I drove away
he was in the roadway
stopping to let him cross
he bowed with aplomb
what a blast
felt touched by an angel
he had made my day
pray I may age this well
for life is far too short
to grumble or be out of sort
his mischievous sparkle
lit up my day
the rain has been rather non-stop so fires have abated but now flooding …
Great job on the prompt! Love the story in this one.

Such a pleasant encounter Kate. Reminded me of an old gentleman I had met. He fit your poem perfectly and I thought the same, ‘hope I age as gracefully one day,’ ๐

yes we need to remind ourselves of that one … keep that sparkle in the eye and spring in our step no matter our age or ailments ๐

Yeah! It’s fun to run across someone who isn’t grumpy these days. Everybody needs to take this gentleman’s example and lighten up. Great poem.

yes you make a good point … maybe I found the interaction even more pleasant as most people are brash these days!

lol with all those important emails to answer I understand the rationing ๐ Thanks!

More like rationing, because what more is there to add? You created the splendor, enough so that just one word, and one word only, does it justice.

So sorry to hear about the flooding. ๐ฆ Sadly, that happens often when rain comes in droves after fires. No vegetation to absorb the rain. ๐ฆ

How wonderful to meet someone so full of life! It is these chance encounters that brighten our life.
I think rain is now a lesser evil as compared to the fires.
