when life serves up the pointy end
no need to get agro or pretend
stay calm think don’t reoffend
for each reaction does extend
our ability to comprehend
try to buck your usual trend
learn to be a better friend
to yourself so you can mend
find a solution that will transcend
all the bother and emotive spend
that destructive turmoil will rend
measured responses I commend
Think before speaking… always a good thing.
I like that pencil up close. Like a giant is taking a break from creating and set his pencil so it wouldn’t roll off into the ocean. 🙂

exactly my thought when I saw it … a giants pen holder 🙂
Had seen the bottom part of that for decades and always thought it needed finishing. So sculptor made the top half and painted the existing pole 🙂

As usual, such sound advice Kate! 🙂 If only more people would take this advice, the world would be a better place. Love your poetry!

A lovely poem! I love the words – the monorhyme and the use of some really underused vocabulary! (especially commend, transcend, and extend)

lol I have a broad vocab but am aware that for many readers English is their second language …

This was my favorite line in this one: learn to be a better friend
to yourself so you can mend
It really, really spoke to me! And as always, I am so impressed with your rhyming ability!

If that pencil is supposed to write messages on the sky, it’s going to have a hard time making its point, even though the pencil is well “red.”
