“While covered bridges are sometimes called kissing bridges, the real reason for the covering is to protect the bridge’s truss design from the weather.”
I’ve got one near me. I thought these kinds of bridges were everywhere, but apparently not.
I don’t think this is a complete list, but you’ll get the idea 🙂

Nice addition thanks Jules, I saw my first pic of these style of bridges here on WP .. no such bridges here in oz!
I thought is was maybe to protect from snow as you have such heavy falls?

More for show. Not really that much traffic on those bridges mostly used in the country by the Amish – who I think are mostly the builders of such ‘Kissing Bridges’. Most are only one lane wide.

then a wonder there are not more covered roadways … don’t they travel by horse and buggy 😉

Depends on where you are…More in the country areas. We still see evidence of buggy traffic… road apples (I would have thought towns would insist on horse diapers or some such kind of pouch… but not yet anyway). Some of out grocery stores closer to the farms have horse stalls… for parking buggies.

lol here people pay a heap for such manure for their gardens so I’m sure a few keen gardeners would be keen to clean up 🙂

….reminds me of the gal who made money selling the tumble weeds around her area… for home decorations. People will pay for unique things…

manure is a lot more practical … smart lady!

Bridges are always fascinating! We had to cross a lot of bridges every day in CA while traveling to work and back home…a fav was a double-decker bridge. 🙂
And I’ve always loved “bridges” we can build in people groups, relationships, etc. 🙂
