Caught in Expectation

Caught in our expectations of how things should be;
relationships, bosses and the world according to our beliefs.

Living in a fantasy of how we wish things to be
with vague connection to reality!

When things don’t go according to our desire
we dig in wishing the impossible will transpire.

Letting go or going with the flow may feel like failure
with our need to control things, mould them to our will

Yet everything is interdependent and choices arise
its up to us to listen, learn, grow and compromise!

Get disappointed when expectations aren’t met?
let go, relax, dissolve and I bet

That life will become easier
relationships so much breezier

So weigh up the cons and pros
before allowing to things to get up your nose.

Relinquish all expectations and fears,
nurture kind care to avoid those emotional tears.

  1. WORD!!!! You said it here…. As I was reading this fabulous poem above, I kept thinking of my 27yr old daughter and how for the passed few 10 yrs I have been driving these words into her head and how she is “finally” hearing it. Good Morning World!

  2. Expectations…especially unrealistic expectations…usually cause hurt and disappointment…fears never do us any good at all.

  3. Very wise and slowly learning the importance of not expecting people to have the same expectations as I have and it is a happy realisation but I would add that being respected is not an expectation we can let go.

    • oh yes we can let go of that one too, we would all like to be respected and have to earn that but there are always the feeble minded jealous ones ready to shred that reputation

  4. Sometimes the best we can do in situations is remain calm.
I had to use auto service yesterday – tire blow out… my fault.
I was on the line waiting for at least twice to three times as long to get connected to agent who could direct aide than I did waiting for the aide and change of the tire.
Hanging up and redialing wouldn’t have done any good, nor complaining to the agent who finally got on the line. While I might have expected quicker service the repeated loop said; Please hang on the line as your call will be answered in the order it was received.
At least I knew that I wasn’t hurt and had a safe and warm place to wait. The others before me may have had more serious issues.

  5. This is just what is happening with me these days, I feel like I shouldn’t expect you know, but the human subconscious doesn’t really listen to what we want and it puts on those ideas 🙂 its really difficult to deal, when the other person doesn’t want to acknowledge your feelings.
