People become outliers for many reasons
Some are marginalised through no fault of their own
due to physical or mental challenges, colour or creed
for society in general discriminates against minorities
But some, like me, step away from the mainstream
refusing to participate in consumerism
daring to make choices that single us out,
our society is threatened by such diversity
They prefer people adhere to their expectations,
struggle with those not complying with their ‘norm’
they can’t comprehend that we have no need to conform
Stigma aside we all need to embrace outliers with kindness
This is an news article about a First Australian teen from Kakadu National Park furthering his education at a Melbourne boarding school, where he is an outlier. Well worth viewing for the dramatic pictures of tropical lushness in northern Australia.
Daily Prompt: Outlier
Our herd mentality to be blamed! We want everyone to conform.

and what a dead boring world that would be … we need the ‘characters’ 🙂

The problem with pushing conformity is that not everyone can, or wants to, conform. Long live individuality! And tolerance for those who are different from us, too.

Nice to be different then go with the crowd and do what every other person is doing. A nice and interesting poem, Kate.

yes we want to label them and put them down instead of get curious and try to get to know them …

Or even just accept them…

YES! And such good truth and wisdom!
Yes, with kindness!
I see everyone, and their lifestyle-choice, as someone/something I can possible learn something from. So I keep my eyes, ears, hands, and heart open.

It is often the thinkers of the world that become outliers as they don’t toe the popular line as you have said here. Well done, Kate.
