Are your beliefs a sketchy silhouette loosely
adopted from what your faith and family said?
Barely skin deep, a vague shadowy ritual,
blindly followed because it seems ‘right’?
Or have you had reason to question and probe
then deeply integrated with your very soul?
Some wait for crisis or trauma, to take a closer
look but at death’s door you need a solid grasp
of exactly what it means for you!
Solid faith sincerely opens your heart to everyone,
is accepting and embraces diversity.
To preach or convert turns others right off,
they will find their way when they are ready!
My faith is a living thing, sometimes weak and sometimes strong. Enhanced by experiences through my life. I was raised in a certain culture and religion, but as a young woman found reason to leave that all behind, to question the faith as my fore-fathers taught it. As a more mature woman I’ve re-embraced the teachings, using the experiences of my youth to fashion my own idea of what God expects (if He expects anything of us at all) and to look at death in a pragmatic way. It will come, it’s a question of how prepared will I be to answer when it calls?
agreed, you do live your faith, it’s deeply integrated into your heart 🙂
It’s not just death we need to prepare for but all those challenges that we meet along the way, if our faith is deeply integrated then we have a solid foundation to build on no matter which faith if it works for us!
The questions you asked…the challenge you gave…are important.
Communing with and learning from someone/something bigger spiritually and deeper spiritually than ourselves can be lived out in our lives…by how we act and react, how we help, how we make people feel, etc.
I love your ending…yes, people do find their way when they are ready.
HUGS!!! 🙂
Beautifully written and seed for thought. This can open up a meaningful and profound dialogue on what we believe, and why, and how we truly live out those beliefs in our lives –
not just pay lip service to a religion without practicing which should lead to true spirituality.
You have laid it out perfectly. Unless the creed in embedded in strong belief, it is just hanging in the air, easily displaced by a gust of strong wind of doubt.
Excellent thoughts put across, Kate and yes whether our beliefs are profound or flimsy. Solid faith moves mountains they say and to have that is the reality.
Personally I think its criminal when I see the damage it’s done to our First Australians and communities overseas … converting to another faith has ripple effects and it’s not pretty … each to their own I say!
Spot on, and in a weird way took me also to the lyrics of Bohemian Rhapsody – Silhouette, and also fantasy, a song about facade really. Couldn’t agree more. 🙂

I love the direction you took this prompt. Faith can be just a shadow, a silhouette or something more sold and tangible. It is a great analogy!

So very true. Most people start by imitation and only some move towards deeper understanding.

Beliefs should always have a solid foundation. Wonderfully put forth.

but they seldom do, for too many it’s just a window dressing …

So sad and so true and at the same time it’s hard to convince everyone all the time to have patience.

Thks is where I found my faith in traditional churches failed. The idea of having to convert others seemed wrong to me.

I think you’re right, but it’s even the denominations withing faith have caused so much division too.

they are fundamental fanatics who have missed the whole point of faith …
