We all have entrenched patterns of behaviour:
how we interact with others;
how we react to criticism;
how we cope with stress;
Ingrained habits, healthy or otherwise.
They are generally learnt from our parents,
teachers or those around us.
Personal growth allows far more choices;
we can continue as is or listen to wiser voices?
Patterns of behaviour can be changed
not always easy but persistence will win!
Not checking the damage we cause is a sin
for it helps motivate and empower our growth
Increasing our skills and kindness.
Others get turned off if we react with blindness.
When we integrate much healthier patterns
life will flow more smoothly, like silk!
Daily Prompt: Pattern with photo of nature’s dramatic patterns – 3.12.17
Very well stated! I love line 11: “Not checking the damage we cause is our sin” This line reflects a meaningful insight. I agree. I think we often sin against our selves, against our minds, our bodies, our spirit. I think now I’m going to this poem in mind. So well done. Thank you, Kate, for posting.

I agree! I don’t think we are really mature adults until we learn to abandon some of the responses we learned from our parents that no longer work for us (if they ever did), and begin to live more according to our own true nature. If we don’t, in a sense we are still children, no matter what we look like on the outside.

So true and encouraging poetic words, Kate and yes I completely agree also. Perseverance and having faith is what is so required in order to challenge our egos.

yes so many of us need to pull them into line … we’ve let them run riot like naughty kids they need boundaries!

I love the last stanza…so much good really will happen if we are kind and if we always want to further our skills..

yes it has to come from our own strong motivation, not a wishy washy attitude Mich 🙂

Excellent, Kate! I agree!
Always good to look honestly at our patterns and seek to change those we should change.

I think after a certain age it is our choice how we develop our thinking abilities.

indeed Rupali but few rarely examine them to see if they need changing, they stay cemented in the thought and behaviour patterns entrenched by parents or society …

Despite drawing my own patterns, I like to see what others draw for themselves. This way I learn a lot 🙂

oh yes, I am always looking to see if their actions match the words … sadly it seldom does so I step away … when they match I know I’ve found a worthy friend 🙂

So true, this made me think how I used to handle constructive criticism, always too sensitive, but I’ve really been working on using it as a tool to help me reflect and grow. After all its important to listen to what others have to say because we all have a unique perspective to offer that can provide room for positive growth.😊❤️

always room for improvement Jenna but I tend to have a filter … if I respect the person and know they are coming from their heart I will pay close attention … but if they bad mouth many I just don’t listen …

Always room for change – other wise we stagnate or atrophy.

Just watched an episode of Orville (sci-fi) where patterns dictated life to a sad point – but then shifted when the pattern was rearranged for a rescue. I would like to think more that patterns can be helpful guides rather than restrictive doctrine.

oh they can definitely be both but I was talking specifically about our personal patterns of behaviour Jules
