When things go wrong as they surely will,
When the path you’re trudging seems all uphill,
When funds are low and the debts are high,
and you want to smile but you need to sigh,
When things are pressing you down a bit –
Rest if you must but don’t ever quit!
Life is a challenge with it’s twists and turns,
as each of us eventually learns,
Too many turn about
When they might have won had they stuck it out!
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow –
you may succeed with another go.
Often the goal is closer than it seems
when one makes an effort to realise their dreams.
So often we struggle and can give up
when persistence might capture that victor’s cup,
We learn too late once the chips are down,
how close we came to that golden crown.
Success is failure turned inside out –
the silver lining in those clouds of doubt,
And it’s hard to tell how close you are,
It may be near but can seem so far,
So stick to the goal when you’re hardest hit,
It’s when things seem worse that you must never quit!
Edited from Unknown – But please do Quit smoking for your health!
That last part ‘when things seem worse that you must never quit’ is a very powerful message and a great quote for everyone whenever things seem hard, because around that corner we’ll all be happy we persevered and didn’t quit 🙂

So much of the poem is so true. People tend to walk away than accept the rewards of perseverance. They think it’s easier; in reality it often leads to the next confrontation that leads to walking even further away from where most people need to be headed.

Hi Calm Kate,
I love your poem. Reminiscent of Shel Silverstein. I love rhyming poems.

Thank you Kate for this. I did quit smoking bout 3 months ago, after 50 years Huh! But I’m struggling to not quit other things…. I was very lucky that many, many of them came true in this live. However now, all my achievements vanished. I still have hopes though, but maybe I’m just not realistic – not sure.

wow that is big to quit smoking after 50 years, good luck with those other habits … persistent effort will always win so even if you slip back start each day anew 🙂

Oh yes thanks 😀 quoting smoking is not easy, but everything is in the mind, so if you can reeducate your mind, it works. No, I don’t have other habits to quit, and I wouldn’t anyway – I’m not preparing myself to go to the monastery 😀

Oh, I see that my first statement was incomplete and I missed something. I meant to say that “I was very lucky that many, many of my dreams came true in this live” – Even some I haven’t dream of, ha, ha… I have to really thank to the Universe for this!
We have much more power than we think we have, but things also happen randomly, and you never know what your next day will reserve to you… anyway, let’s hope for the best.

Interesting article but it’s a real sales pitch with loads of commercials … readers click on it at your own risk!

Actually what you have seen is the home page of her site and the links and images point to various pages of the site. She does not have any commercials there….

no but there are many there … a bit like I knew wordpress put ads on our free blogs and it wasn’t until I was showing a friend on her computer and saw so many that I coughed up the dough to pay for my domain …
