We are slaves to one thing or another …
our family, work or sport;
social media, movies or games;
addictions, appearances or wealth.
Is your service good for your health,
or does it drain your energy by stealth?
Are you a slave to your every desire?
Give into every whim ending up in a quagmire?
Or more disciplined than that
and trying to develop healthy habits …
Is your service good for your health,
or does it drain your energy by stealth?
Does your service fulfil your needs?
Does it fit with your values and creeds?
Are you planting healthy seeds,
or compulsive sickly weeds?
Is your service good for your health,
or does it drain your energy by stealth?
What rewards do you reap,
do you have deep contented sleep?
How does it resonate with your life aims,
or is it causing grief even pains?
Is your service good for your health,
or does it drain your energy by stealth?
Please pause and see
Are you heading where you want to be?
Are you feeling shackled or free?
Do you spiral down or light up with glee?
Is your service good for your health,
or does it drain your energy by stealth?
I am really thinking right now,Is my service good for my health or does it drain the energy by stealth? food for thought there. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for sharing, Many a time we just go on doing what we do without really thinking. What you have said is true.

HA!!….. Wow so many of us must really ask this question. Lately I have been asking myself this. I don’t know you, but it is true we are slaves to one thing or another …… UGH!…. I really like your verse up above, it gives a lot to thought. Of ourselves and what we surround ourselves with…
Keep up the nourishment Kate.
Quagmire… hahahhahaaa!!!!

True word & well written…. We all are enslaved to something in life.
I am enslaved to my goals/dreams, but in a healthy way though!

Oh. Wow.
The questions this poem ask, are complicated and tricky. But we get these answers right, we can figure our life into the right direction.
This was very beautiful! 😊

Yes, what are we enslaved to, and are we willing or enslaved? I’m reminded that in the Judeo-christian fold, the emphasis is on choosing your path and doing so unencumbered, so that one can positively be a ‘slave’ but only the sense of a positive self-giving. Hard for many to do with all the BS about and manipulation by institutions.

Excellent, Kate! Important questions that we all need to ask ourselves…and answer.
I have to be careful as I often put everyone else before me. But, I am learning to say “No” or “I can’t do that for you today” once in awhile to focus on my emotional and physical health. 🙂
It’s interesting how some people, especially female-people, think it’s wrong or selfish to focus on/or take care of themselves. When we must to that…have a balance…so we can be our best for ourselves and others. 🙂
HUGS!!! 🙂

I so agree! It takes strength to say ‘no’ and to look after yourself. I share something similar in my upcoming post on Bullying & Self-care

a crucial point Carolyn and one I strongly advocate …. we need to care for ourselves physically and mentally first and then we are more capable of performing better for others 🙂
