Are you Resilient?

Resilience is the ability to cope, adapt and recover from difficult experiences such as trauma, sickness, adversity, threats, divorce, tragedy or financial/work stressors

  • check your resilience by listing the for and against
    … there maybe more positives than you thought! 
  • know that there will be tests but we have survived them all so far
    … so we can survive the worst possible case scenario
  • ask for the support of those who care … people want to help! 
  • move towards our end goal, slowly but surely things will improve 
  • persistence will ensure we grow stronger and stronger with each challenge.

This way we learn from each experience and adapt quicker; we prioritize those relationships that support us, and avoid the toxic ones! Our communication skills and empathy improve, we become more authentic, we avoid blocks and games, and we grow with every experience.

It’s all about making lemonade out of the lemons life throw us, and knowing that we do have the ability and resources to turn it around!

How strong is your resilience?


  1. I’ve been making lemonade for a long time. The rewards are plenty, though there are still some goals…if I bothered to make lists. 😉
    Just changed the Milkweed for the Monarch Cats this morning. Just having my grands ask me to keep them informed of changes and maybe gifting some of the critters to their science teachers once school starts… priceless.

    We are of like minds (or great minds think alike!)! 🙂 I was thinking of all of this recently (related to my heath stuff), and I posted yesterday on the fact that I’m learning it’s okay to not be okay and it’s okay to ask for help. I always help others and I’m not so good at speaking up or letting others help me when I need it. But, I’m learning. 🙂
    I’m fairly resilient. Some of it is being an optimist and some of it is being stubborn. 🙂 I try to learn from the lemons, and keep making the lemonade! 😉 🙂

  3. Kate, another great post. Certainly, plenty to think about. As we grow older and get to know ourselves better, and our strengths and weaknesses, I think resilience comes along as part of that. We know that throughout our time on earth, we will be buffeted by many trials and situations, each one of those times helps to build our resilience and to spring back from difficulties. That may be a bit of an oversimplification, but I think we need to develop the ability to spring or bounce back from tough situations. We may not be the same and hopefully, after we’re it all we’re in a much better place. Great comments from your readers. Thanks for posting.

  4. Kate, this post from you comes at the right time. For me resilience came from letting go. I truly underestimated my mental abitilies. But once it was done, there was so much liberation, peace and joy!! Thanks for writing..

  6. When my faith in God’s goodness and the fact that he will always be with me is tested or shaken I become stronger after I recover. It is my faith in his promises that hold me together in tough times and prevent me from despairing.

My resilience has grown as I move closer to myself, and further away from a focus on desperately trying to please others–this way of moving through the worlds is tied to vulnerability….vulnerability that had long been convinced that I would be lost without the approval, protection, help, acceptance, success etc. Thanks for sharing 🙂
