How often do you dare
to treat yourself with kind care?
Have someone else do your nails or hair
or wear an outfit that screams real flare!
Loving yourself is a choice
Don’t let doubts have any voice!
In order to grow
we need to know
ourselves and how we flow
What presses our buttons, how we go!
Loving yourself is a choice
Don’t let doubts have any voice!
Build on your strengths and follow your dream,
Empower yourself and don’t be mean!
Embrace your yucky bits and get keen
for nothing is as bad as it may seem!
Loving yourself is a choice
Don’t let doubts have any voice!
Hardship will surely come our way
but don’t let the blues stay
wallowing will never pay
Healthier to laugh and be gay!
Loving yourself is a choice
Don’t let doubts have any voice!
So if you find yourself wearing a frown
find challenges weighing you down
go for a trip to get out of town
or cheer yourself up by playing the clown!
Loving yourself is a choice
Don’t let doubts have any voice!
Don’t get gloomy staring into your beer
Have a ready-made list of things that can cheer
Sit in the café and leer
You are your own inner seer!
Loving yourself is a choice
Don’t let doubts have any voice!
This poem flowed naturally soon after I posted the poem on self-harm.
It totally makes sense that such a poem flowed. I’d say loving yourself is the only choice

It took me a long time to learn to love myself, because my upbringing had taken it out of me, but I’m making progress 🙂
have a lovely weekend,

It’s nice that this poem just came out flowingly. I guess that means it’s a subject close to your heart. It is important to keep in a positive frame of mind. I do sometimes try to get out of town for exactly that reason. I’m a little shy, so I don’t often play the clown, but I sometimes try to play the guitar, which is almost as hilarious.

Such lovely words and when you say “this poem flowed naturally” proves your ability. One should be kind to all starting from self. Thank you Kate for sharing it.

Oh, what a lovely poem, Kate…it reads life a breath of fresh air on a sunny day (such is a day today where I live). I especially appreciate your suggestion that we have a list of things on hand that we know will give us a boost….sometimes, when one is feeling in need of a boost, it is hard to think of what to do. Thank you for using your time and efforts to share your gifts with us 🙂

This is the best poem ever . It produced a new energy in us . This is something we should focus on . Your poem became an inspiration now for all who need motivation and courage to do something meaningful in their life and we’re all one of them . Thank you so much Kate for this lovely and heartwarming poem .

Your poems are so inspirational. We tend to be hard on ourselves, trying to change ourselves to suit others better, all this not loving ourselves how we must.

I love myself too much
to dress with “real flair”
and, as for my hair,
someone else can’t do
for me…what isn’t there.
So, since none of the above
will get me anywhere,
I’ll not repent, but be content
to just stay a simple ‘square.’

Loved this Kate. All so very true and such wise words. And so rhythmic it almost sounded like a song. 🙂

So encouraging and inspirational, Kate!
I enjoy reading all of your poems out loud…but especially the rhyming ones.
What great reminders in those colorful squares at the top of this post!
We could all use that displayed in a place we could see it every day!
HUGS!!! 🙂
