The drunk fishermen had started out five hours before but were so stonkered they’d lost an oar. With a huge storm brewing they were about to be washed out to sea but were too drunk to comprehend their imminent danger.
Once out to sea a marine rescue would not be possible for hours due to the shocking weather conditions. So the little girl who summed up the situation ran to the nearby caravan park for help.
Nobody could get a boat into the river quick enough. So the only chance for survival was to make a human chain to catch the boat just before it floated past the headland. This put 23 people’s lives at risk to save two drunken idiots.
Once safely on land they immediately headed to the bowls club to have a few more drinks to recover from their shock. The local rag wrote them up as heroes never mentioning the holidaymakers who’d risked their lives to save a couple of drunks …

This so happens Kate, I say every holiday season. Thanks for adding your thoughts.

I feel so uncomfortable when I read such stories.

yes but sadly they are too true and I hope by sharing the stories such idiots might think twice before doing such dumb things that endangers those trying to rescue them … maybe their families would prefer to have lost them at sea 😦

Every day. Real – had a few of those reported here. Enjoyed it very much. (I’m in oar – couldn’t resist) 🙂

At dawn we set out
From the pier
We have no sense
We have no fear
You take the helm
I’ll take the beer
I can drink
And you can steer
I’ve changed my mind
You drive too slow
It’s time that you
Gave me a go
I am a sailor
Don’t you know?
Now I will drive
And you can row
So I am Captain
You’re First Mate
Let’s toast to that!
Let’s celebrate!
Ignore concerns
About our fate
But goodness me
…….. It’s getting late
Where are we now?
Just let me think
My courage
Has begun to shrink
Best give me
Another drink
Before this boat
Begins to sink
This day of fun
Has lost its gloss
This could be
At sea. A loss
I think I’ve killed
An albatross
Why did you make me
The boss?
SOS
We’re in distress
Please save us from
This awful mess
Hurry up
Don’t dilly-daddle
We’re up the creek
Without a paddle

This story reminds me about politicians of my country, who during the time of general elections, steps out of their “castles/mansions” to meet up common folks. Their sole purpose is to power up their reign for yet another set of five years by utilizing the power of our vote.
And that days are upon us once again as general elections will take place next month!

yes they are very visible and vocal when they are seeking our votes, then go quite and seem to do as little as possible once they get in again 😦

Yes, this happens all the time. And UGH on these people! 😦 They do stupid things while drinking/drunk and don’t think about the people who have to save them.
Great write!
HUGS!!! 🙂

These are the kind of people who at some point may need help but actually they dont deserve help at all..
Sometimes we are too generous..we miss out the chance of looking into the real motives of people wanting/asking our help.

Great imagery. I could see the chain of tourists out in the water.

Really? This is an act of insanity. Going out in those conditions drunk and being branded as heroes… Maybe next time they’ll drown…
