I can imagine. The thing is we think we’ve advanced in the last 100 years but we’ve only just started. Our attitudes towards women and minorities still needs so much work.
How’s your weekend?
I have been at this Decades Simon, with loads of intense retreats … No it is Not easy but it is so worthwhile … once you get a ‘taste’ you cannot stop!
it’s forming a new habit, something quite different from our usual pattern of thinking … think of it like building my body up for Miss Universe, loads of hours, diet and discipline go into it … so this is to tame my mind! A mental workout ..
start with what you already do eg gardening, music, walk, we all have some way of zoning out … maybe writing. But start with that and ten minutes of just sitting each day for a year .. once it’s a habit you wont want to stop but at first all the garbage arises so quitting is too easy 🙂
no, I bring it back immediately it starts to wander, think of it like a mischievous child … if not engaged in good healthy play they will wreck havoc, our mind is exactly the same.
But first zone out with your preferred healthy manner .. relax into that then do ten minutes
it will for ages, spine must be straight .. I always say “body relaxed spine straight, mind relaxed but sharp!” Got to start sometime 🙂
Only 5-10 minutes and yo want to go back …
I love signs! Your photos are great and fun!
“What a load of crepe!” HA! 😛
Signs…sometimes they are vital…sometimes baffling…sometimes funny…sometimes ponderful… 🙂 It’s fun to read them on road trips! 🙂
Makes me think of an old song from The Dark Ages “Signs” by The Five Man Electrical Band! 😀
HUGS!!! 🙂

How long do you tend to meditate for?

a few hours each day but more when I can .. ten minutes is good for beginners!

Wow… A few hours??? What do you think about in that time?

no the idea is NOT to think! To find the space between thoughts … to take respite from our usual busy mind. ..

Ok but that doesn’t come naturally. You mind doesn’t wander? I guess you let sounds and all that wash over you?

It’s ironic you have to work hard at not doing anything… not even thinking.

I see that… Taming is a good way to look at it.

taming or training, getting it under control instead of running amok!

because you let it, it is habituated that way because you’ve never tried to tame it!

Oh I see, headspace covered this. They said let your mind wander for a moment then bring it back to help train your mind. Is that good?

So you can meditate while doing something? I thought it would be sitting quietly

it’s not meditation, it’s a technique to Relax your mind so you can begin meditation … a bit like a warm up exercise before you jog!

Right. So say gardening for a while to relax and then meditate. By being still and making the mind quiet.
