The malefactor was creeping about the city before dawn, pretending to be a fly on the wall as he surveyed the lonely streets looking for mischief. As a safeguard he had rehearsed his prevaricate response should anyone stop him. I mean a little lie here and there was a peccadillo compared to his usual crimes. He was peering into the shop glass when boom, a car backfired and the still calm vanquished in that instant.
