As kids we all had fun on the carousel
but as adults we deprive ourselves
Forget to take the time out and do things
just for the cheer joy of it, we lost our fun
We compensate in unskilful ways
with consumerism and social media
Gone are the old days of fun and games
as we bury ourselves in the unnecessary
Roasting marsh-mellows over a fire
Riding down hill at breakneck speed
Spinning ourselves dizzy on the roundabout
Are these childhood joys still about?
Healthier to get off the carousel of life
Turn off all devices and find some fun
Good clean fun with friends and laughs
Board games or cards, enjoy the NOW!
daily prompt: Carousel
Love the sentiment in this piece. The simple things in life often bring us the greatest pleasure. One of the teachers at my school has introduced some board games and cards into our staff room for lunch times. Best. Move. Ever!

The times they are a changin, Kate. Just got my 11 year old his first phone. Makes me as nervous as my parents probably felt when they got me my first bike.

I agree. The simple things like board games are hardly played these days. Too much IT and tech. I like Scrabble but these days kids don’t even know it exists😔

We truly do “bury ourselves in the unnecessary.” It is time to gather life back and get in touch with our roots. Our interests. Our desires.

sounds like you too enjoy nature … wouldn’t be nice if the world decided a weekly device free day or at least two hours each day …

A gorgeous reminder Kate. We forget to give ourselves permission to have pure fun through play, like we used to. Swings for me whenever I can…🙋🏻💐

So true!
I often wonder if kids are getting out much at all these days. Sad. Too many monitors and tech devices for them to get involved with.
Like you said, they need to get out and have fun…they should play, climb trees, have a lemonade stand, plant a small garden, ride bikes, etc! 🙂
We should all go find a carousel and take a ride! 🙂 I love to play! 🙂
Enjoy your travels! I will miss you around here!
HUGS!!! 🙂

Life has become so mundane because we’ve forgotten how to be children. This was a good reminder. Great one!

That’s a very good point! When did we forget how to have fun? It does seem as if alcohol, social media, and worst, buying things has become the only way adults know how to have fun!
