Our mental chatter speeds non-stop
with constant busyness we inflate
most things out of proportion
exaggerating and twisting the facts
Easier to fabricate our own fantasies
an ingrained habit used to avoid
accepting reality that conflicts
with our distorted expectations
It stirs our emotions causing pain
yet we act insane allowing it full reign
until eventually we self destruct as it erupts
creating harm to those around
So why do we give this savage such power
why not try to gain more mind control
by stopping the destructive mental activity
slow it down by finding your inner calm
Daily Prompt: Savage
oh this is a powerful and a wise poem!

Hard to say why any who have gain it, retain power – over others.
We do need to calm ourselves in order to move forward with growth.

The perils of contemplation, Kate. Once early toddlerhood flicked the brain’s “On” switch, it’s been nonstop chatter ever since.
Most of the time, that’s pretty cool, but everyone once in a while, a migraine-addled consciousness pleads, “Just shut up, would ya?” Sorry mister, nothing doing.
Eventually, though, an antidote was discovered, a veritable treasure of glittering gold and jewels – joy. A happy contemplation of life’s excellent points walks back much of the chatter, and occasionally even finds the “Mute” button.
For me it’s something new – my Eureka! moment.

Your poems always bring calm and 🙂 ‘s!
Some people only think about calm, relaxing, “healing” and slowing down their mind and body when they are on holiday or vacation. When we should learn to soothe the savage “beast” all year round.
HUGS!!! 🙂

Well said, Kate. Always bears reminding. So easy to go chasing the storm when we should let it pass.
